Men at Work

Decided to cut a hole in the old foundation to access heat, water, and anything else I might need. A rotohammer, sledge hammer and 4 hours and you too can have a good looking hole like this.

Pouring the forms

The big pump truck sat on the street and reached about 75 feet over the house and pumped cement into the forms. The kids are supervising our excavator Issac as he guides the "mud" into the forms. It took about 30 minutes to fill the forms.

Forms done

The forms are done and awaiting the concrete and, at this point, the permit. After 4 weeks in the Engineering department at City of Monroe and some sweet talking, we had permit in hand just 24 hours before the big pumper truck and cement arrive...too close for me!

The Beginning

Here is the back of our house as it currently sits except for the mound of dirt because the digging already has begun by this picture. Aug 21 the excavation began. It took 2 days to dig and put in forms.

Rotten door

What started as a simple "gee let's replace the ugly french doors with new ones" turned out to be a bit more of a problem when I realized I could see through the floor INSIDE the house to the crawl space...so much for energy efficient. Turns out you are supposed to use flashing when installing decks under doors. Anyway, got a new door and after we dig in to the damage, we'll see what needs to be replaced.
